Sparrow

A Sparrow Couple

Common Name (Hindi): Gauraiya,Chida aur Chidiya

This was one of the earliest bird pic clicked by me, on a lazy winter morning, just outside on the balcony. Though it was a bird as common as a bird could be ,the House Sparrow, but I felt as if the birds were posing for a formal photo-shoot in a studio.

I still feel, that composition wise, its one of the best bird pair pic that I have clicked. My then fiance, and now wife, couldn't stop laughing on seeing this pic, "...'cause Sparrows are so common, who clicks Sparrows, they are found everywhere, just outside the house, like you did and well even inside...".

Ironically, who would have thought that these commonest of birds would so soon find a place in list 'Threatened Species' of WWF, India.๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข

Please spread awareness and help in getting our sparrows back. And hopefully, they will be back...

The Fuji Finepix S5600 was mine first digital camera. It had an EVF, enabling view finder shooting with accuracy without it being a DSLR, a 10x optical zoom, a pretty quick click to shoot time for its time. And I just loved it, it was with me more than 08 years, from Nov 05 till Dec 13, before I finally moved up on to the Nikon D7000.

Painted Stork

Range: Endemic to Asia, Majorly in India
Gear: Nikon D7000 with AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR

We were just wandering, driving around the country side on a nice Saturday evening, when we saw a flock of birds flying loose orbits low in sky and then disappearing into the ground...

Surprised, we drove up to their point of disappearance and lo and behold, we were delightfully surprised to discover a huge cavernous pit which hitherto was not visible. In the centre of this pit was a largish pond filled with shallow water even in the water-less winter months of this dry drought prone area. The pond was a mine of bird and animal activity.

So our lucky spotting and curious follow up during the wandering led to this exploratory personal discovery which later on found us spending quite some evenings and mornings just sitting by its shores.
